Up With People Brings Together Cultural Diversity in North Miami

When I heard that the cast of “Up With People” was coming to North Miami, I was taken back in time to the year 1999. That January, I packed my belongings into a suitcase I could barely carry and boarded a plane heading to Denver, Colorado. I was about to embark on a year of cultural awakening, self-discovery and world travel, better known as my year with Up With People.

Up With People has been around for over 40 years and it is a global education program made up of 80-100 students in each cast from around the world between the ages of 17-29. They spend 6-months (it used to be a year) traveling around the world, staying in host families, volunteering in the communities, gaining professional development skills and of course, performing the Up With People musical production in each city that they visit.

The cast will be in North Miami from February 16th – 23rd. During this time they will be working on several volunteer projects including Paint it Proud and motivating students to recycle in the North Miami Public Schools. Their stay will wrap up with an electrifying performance bringing together the international languages of dance and music while inspiring and educating members of the community to create a positive impact on their surroundings.

The cast will have 2 performances in North Miami.

Dates: Friday, February 20th and Saturday, February 21st

Time: 7:00 pm

Where: Moca Plaza (next to City Hall)

776 NE 125th St

North Miami, FL

Cost: Free
