Crazy About Koalas? Mad For Marsupials?

San Diego Zoo celebrates all things koala and who doesn’t enjoy looking at these cuddly marsupials. Koalapalooza kicks off of Animal-themed events in 2010. During January 15 to January 18, Koalapalooza, a celebration so wildly popular is back for a second time. There will be music, Zoo costumed characters, keeper talks, scavenger hunts, an Australian plant tour, chances to meet Aussie animals up close and more.
Did you know that the San Diego Zoo has the largest colony of koalas outside of Australia – and it continues to grow? During Zoo Discovery Days: Koalapalooza, guests can help name a very special joey.

Your visit begins as you walk on the front plaza outside the Zoo.  You will hear Australian music and are likely to meet a koala mascot or “Doc” holding court and describing what the day will hold.  In the mornings, a horticulturalist in a huge, tree-trimming truck will challenge children to count the many plush koalas hiding the plaza and its trees.

In the Flamingo Plaza, guests will have a chance to meet animal ambassadors, including a koala, and watch free-flying macaws soar overhead at scheduled times throughout the day.  You can earn your “School of Gross,” or earn a certificate of koala knowledge at one of the many activity booths a few steps away.

At the koala exhibit, Zoo interpretive volunteers will be on hand from 11am to 3pm each day of Koalapalooza to share information about these loveable creatures.  Across the street at Sydney’s Grill, The Safari Bush Band and the Didgeridoo Man will play lively music.  At the Children’s Zoo, Dr. Zoolittle, the Zoo’s affable wildlife researcher, will host a “Marusupial Madness” show.

For more information about the World Famous San Diego Zoo, visit www.sandiegozoo.org.

Price for one day is $37/adult and $27/child.

AAA members receive 10% off the 1-Day Pass when they show their card.
