Eyup and Golden Horn

Eyup and Golden Horn
Eyup and the Golden Horn What do many Istanbul residents do of a sunny Sunday afternoon? They head for Eyup and the Golden Horn to enjoy the atmosphere of a district with spectacular views, leafy outdoors cafés, tiny street bazaars offering colourful whistles, a speciality of Eyup  and admiring reminders of the distant and not so distant past in the form of the graveyards surrounding the Eyupsultan Mosque and the Pierre Loti Café. Golden Horn seen from Pierre Loti Hill/Eyup Grave of Ebu Eyyub-el...

Final Month for Twilight Package at Port Ludlow

Final Month for Twilight Package at Port Ludlow
Now in its final month, the popular “Twilight” promotion at The Resort at Port Ludlow shows the world (and locals too) why the Olympic Peninsula is such a special place. The resort is about an hour drive from Forks, the quiet rural city made famous in Stephanie Meyer’s best selling Twilight series and subsequent movies.   Although the films weren’t filmed in Forks, there are plenty of themed opportunities for fan.  From maps with special Twilight locations (for example:  the Vampire...

Scenic Drive Along Columbia River Gorge

Scenic Drive Along Columbia River Gorge
Watching the sun come up over the Columbia River Gorge It may only be February, but it felt like spring, on a weekend trip to the Columbia River Gorge.  The Gorge is a canyon stretching 80-some miles bringing the Columbia River through the Cascade Mountain Range to the Pacific Ocean.  It forms the border between Washington and Oregon, and is a protected National Scenic Area. Despite living in Washington all of my life, this weekend marked my first trip to this area, and it’s clear that I’ve...

Cafe on 3 in Black Hawk, Colorado

This past weekend I had the pleasure of eating at Cafe on 3 in The Golden Mardi Gras Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado. If you are into gambling and into some good food, Black Hawk is a great weekend getaway. It took us about 45 minutes to get there and the drive was gorgeous. I kept wanting to stop along the side of the road to take pictures of the river and rocks. It’s just beautiful. I was amazed how the casinos in Black Hawk appear out of nowhere when you drive around the corner. What a cool...

NYC Staycation Japanese Style

Tatami Suite Living Room First I let you know about the rooftop parties the Kitano New York is hosting.  Now I’m giving you the scoop on their Asian Staycation Package.  Normally I wouldn’t even consider a one night stay, regardless of the property’s grandeur for 100,000 yen ($995).  We are still in a recession……right?  That’s more than a month’s groceries, two car payments, the lion’s share of a rent check!  But comparing this package to actually...

I’m Going to Steamboat Springs, CO – Join Me As I Blog About the Trip!

My family and I are headed to Steamboat Springs, Colorado for a week in a few days. I am so excited about the trip for a number of reasons. For one, I have never been there and have heard some great things about the area. Two, I am looking forward to just getting away from the daily life here in Denver and seeing something new. We are staying at a resort there and actually have no real plans. From the sounds of it, we could stay at the resort all week long and never leave. There are plenty of activities...
