A few weeks ago, when I heard that Clematis Social had bit the dust, my mouth dropped. Not that it was another restaurant that closed, but that it was one of . In the time that I have known Burt, I have been more than impressed. Along with serving delicious cuisine at all of his restaurants (his line up includes , , and previously Clematis Social, Gotham and Max’s Grille) and providing top notch service, he is genuine and down to Earth and treats every one of his employees on an equal level. So if the close of Clematis Social didn’t shock me enough, I was frozen when I heard the latest news.

Opus 5 — SOLD. This was his top restaurant and my favorite. The wasabi crusted tuna was spectacular. In the past few weeks, he’d been doing some crazy specials – $9.95 lunch specials and 2-course dinner specials were going for only $17. Could he keep this up?

Wait, but who would buy this restaurant right now, in the middle of summer in South Florida? None other than Mr. Lirim Jacobi. Lirim is not just surviving, but thriving in this challenging economy. You may know him from one of the many restaurants he is working on right now – City Pizza (CityPlace), , Wild Ginger (also in CityPlace). He’s also opening up another Wild Ginger in Boynton Beach, a Taverna Opa at the Dolphin Mall, a hip Mexican place called Taco Viva also at the Dolphin Mall and now, Opus 5. Jacobi takes over operations on August 1. He plans to maintain the culinary concept, yet will bring in a late night disc jockey. Can’t wait to see what other changes he has in store.
