Ice cream in the past five years has gone through major upgrades. Its derivatives and taste-a-likes have been grabbing a lot of attention. People are no longer excited with anything that comes in a tub. For it to be appealing, it needs to be homemade or it needs to be mixed in front of you on a cold slab of rock. There are also those ice creams that claim to be different like Italian gelato and lately, frozen yogurt!
So much emphasis has gone into making ice cream unique and exciting that my latest discovery will surely pull the rug right out from under them. Presenting Nitro Ice Cream. Fresh cream batter that’s frozen before your very eyes using the fast-acting liquid nitrogen. More than dessert, it’s a smoke show and a science lesson in one.
You’ll have fun with all the flavors too. For the flowery tongued, there’s rose, lavender, and osmanthus. They also have Bailey’s Irish Cream. But for you crazy types (like me) go straight for the strangest of them all. Bacon and eggs! I was surprised and thoroughly relieved that it was creamy (like normal ice cream) and it had just the right hint of bacon followed by an eggish aftertaste. They topped it with bits of rice krispies to simulate the crunch of bacon. Yummy. The waiter informed us that other flavors like salted fish and Vigan sausage were in the works.
