  • Congratulations to downtown Houston’s Discovery Green. Pen and PaperThe park project was recently recognized with a LEED Gold Certification. The year-old site features a one-acre lake, a children’s playground area, gardens, two restaurants and much more.
  • And while speaking of accolades, the Tennessee Aquarium (Chattanooga) was awarded the 2009 National Media for Museum & Library Science. The reward is the highest honor for museums & libraries.
  • Did you know that Florida is still a popular destination among both domestic and international travelers? According to, Orlando ranks third among American travelers, while Miami ranks eighth with U.S. travelers and sixth with international travelers.


  • For those who love competitions, consider entering Folgers’ “Home for the Holidays” contest in which the winner (and three other guests) win a trip home to celebrate the holidays with their family. All you need to do is describe what you think is the best part of wakin’ up at home during the holidays. Contest runs through November 7, with the winner announced on November 11.   • Through March 2010, you can take advantage of Eldon Luxury Suites’ (Washington, D.C.) “Weekend in Washington” rate. The four-star rated hotel is offering special rates on one- and two-bedroom suites.
  • Stay two nights in a two-bedroom, Gulf front condo at The Summerhouse in Panama City Beach, Fla., and receive the third night free. Make your stay seven nights, and receive the sixth and seventh night free.
  • Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants nationwide has partnered with The Nature Conservancy’s Plant a Billion Trees campaign and Hotel Palomar Dallas wants guests to contribute. Book the “TNC” rate (be sure the specify that code) to get 10 percent of the best available rate. With this, Kimpton will give $10 to TNC. In addition, the hotel is donating five percent of sales of Natura purified water, plus an additional contribution to TNC.
