London’s gay tourist office

LGBT visitors to London now have a new resource – a gay tourist office. Based in Soho, it’s a great way to learn about the vibrant gay scene in the area – but also offers visitors a chance to get involved with community projects and learn about gay-managed and gay-friendly businesses in London.

The gay tourist office is at 30 Lisle Street, WC2H 7BA [map], above the Ku bar. As well as offering advice on gay bars, the social scene, and events, it offers all the regular tourist services too – hotel bookings, theatre tickets, and tours. There’s also the chance to hang out, drink a cup of coffee or a cold beer, or use the laptop hub.

And there’ll also be advice available on sexual health services in the capital. (Come to think of it, it wouldn’t be a bad idea if that was available to heterosexual travellers too…)

The ‘pink pound’ seems not to have suffered the same currency crisis as the pound sterling, so it’s not surprising that London now offers assistance to gay visitors. The Visitbritain and VisitLondon web sites also offer help for the LGBT visitor – there’s a dedicated resource on gay London, including where to hold your gay wedding and stay on your honeymoon.
