Lake Havasu, Not Just for Spring Break

Lake Havasu, Not Just for Spring Break
... Italian songs as he passes under the bridge at night. The town is a water lovers paradise full of activities including Jet Ski rentals, kayaks, boats, parasailing and paddle-wheel boat tours.  These various watercraft can be rented from booths along the English Village and from shops around town.  If you prefer to have someone else man the boat, catch the ferry ride to Havasu Landing Resort and Casino just across the lake in California or camp on the beach at Lake Havasu State Park where you can...

Get On the Water for Less with Sydney Boatshare

Get On the Water for Less with Sydney Boatshare
We’ve all heard of timeshare accommodation, but now Sydney boatshare is bringing the concept to the water. This is a great way to live like a millionaire at a fraction of the cost. Now with 10% shares for the popular Riviera M400 Sports Cruiser costing around $25, 000 per annum for three years, it’s still not cheap. But if you can spare the cash, there are plenty of benefits. All the tedious stuff like cleaning and maintaining the boat are taken care of. You don’t even have to put fuel in it!...

The Welland Canal: Ships that Ply the Lakes

The Welland Canal: Ships that Ply the Lakes
... the lift locks being made from wood. In the very first Welland Canal, ships were pulled in and out of locks by teams of horses. Eventually, as the boats became bigger and the cargos larger, the canal had to be expanded. The canal you see today opened in 1932. As you drive from city to city along the canal, you will notice that the land surrounding the canal is filled with historic sites, picnic areas, walking and biking paths, museums, displays, beaches, restaurants and accommodations. It’s...

Get on the Water at Sydney International Boat Show

... in the Willows, Kenneth Graham wrote “There is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.” So chances are that he’d be in awe of Sydney’s massive International Boat Show. It lays down its anchors this Thursday for five big days of boating fun. It might sound like the sort of thing men drag their unwilling partners to, but there’s plenty to interest everyone at the festival. One of the real highlights is the Better Boating...

The Rhododenron Festival and a walk in Deer Lake Park

... there in the early ’70′s but it’s not recommended now.  Instead there’s a boat rental and this day there were lots of rowboats and canoes out on the lake.  A flurry of waterfowl, alarmed by the intrusion of all the Sunday walkers, took off in a noisy clatter.  Out among the lily pads a mother duck with her brood of ducklings paddled safely off-shore.  This is a great place to come for bird-watching and earlier in the day there had been a guided tour by one of the birder...

Green London – the Solarshuttle!

... solar power. For me, though, the really exciting thing is that the company which designed this boat is also hoping to create 250-passenger solar boats that can work on the Thames. They’re 15 percent more expensive than conventional boats, but it only takes 3 years to make back the money on fuel costs. And they are stunningly beautiful things. If you fancy heading to the Norfolk Broads, by the way, there’s another solar boat working there – the Ra, on Barton Broad. That’s...
