Shark Week at Birch Aquarium

Shark!  If you yell this at a crowded beach you might cause a panic.  Because of the movies that portray sharks as being human hunters like Jaws and Finding Nemo, many people are deathly afraid of them.  The Birch Aquarium wants to help educate you on the more than 300 types of sharks in the ocean and very few of them actually attack humans.  Shark Week begins on Saturday and continues through July 23.

Birch Aquarium at Scripps will feature special shark-related lectures and activities.    If you ever wanted to touch a baby shark (with just one finger), you’ll be able to with one of their own sharks that they breed.   Birch Aquarium have more than 10 species at their aquarium.   Other events that are going on include a scavenger hunt, detailed displays and photo opportunities in the “Great White” booth.  There are also informative dive shows in the two-story kelp forest tank.  Show times are 2 p.m. on Saturday; 10:30 a.m. Sunday; 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Tickets:  $8 to $12
