Groupon Offers Big Savings in Mexico City

You’re likely already familiar with the largely popular Groupon website that operates in cities throughout the U.S., but you might not be aware that the company also operates here in Mexico.  If you’re going to be spending any amount of time in Mexico City or other major cities throughout the country you may want to consider signing up with Groupon Mexico or at least checking out some of their daily promotions.

Save on local products and services with Groupon Mexico City

Groupon Mexico offers daily online coupons, deals and bargains on a wide selection of products and services in the capital and in other cities throughout Mexico.  Promotions include discounts at restaurants and reduced prices at local businesses as well as a wide range of other coupons and special offers.

Signing up is free and members can elect to have the daily promotion sent straight to their inbox each morning.  The only catch is that a certain number of people have to agree to purchase the promotion in order for it to be valid.  This encourages members to share the promotion with their friends and people on their social networks, and as it turns out the vast majority of promotions are successful.

This system of social commerce benefits Groupon as well as the merchants who can list on the site for free.  Revenue is then shared between the advertiser and the website.

Today’s promotion for a 50% discount at Village Café in the Condesa neighborhood of Mexico City arrived in my inbox early this morning.  The advertisement clearly states the promotion, how much time is remaining to take advantage of the deal and how many people are needed to participate.  The Village Café deal requires that three people purchase the promotion for it to remain valid.

The website also provides information about the participating business, a map indicating where in the city it is located and states how long the promotion will remain valid after it is purchased.  In the case of Village Café, customers have through the end of the year to redeem their coupon.

Members who decide to purchase one of the daily promotions can do so online through the Groupon website.  Payment can be made by credit card or paypal and the website accepts both U.S. dollars and Mexican pesos.  The daily promotions also appear on the Groupon Ciudad de Mexico facebook page.

This is a great initiative. There are other websites operating in this space as well. I work for Cuponzote.com, a similar site with great daily deals, with the major difference that credit card payment is not required to get the deal.

Thanks for the info, I hadn’t heard of Cuponzote.com before but I’m definitely going to check it out. I appreciate the comment!
