A Guide to Shopping in Niagara

While shopping definitely isn’t something tourists come specifically to Niagara to do, there are actually several great areas of the Region where you are able to find not only some great deals, but some unique items.

The Pen Centre (map) is the biggest shopping mall in the Niagara Region, and features 180 different stores.  It’s also home to Empire Theatres, a huge movie complex with 10 screens.  This is the place to shop if you are looking for popular stores such as H&M, Old Navy, Homesense, Pier One, and many more.

Canada One Factory Outlets, (map) is the place to go if you want to find discounts on all kinds of brand names including Mexx, Espirit, Guess and Nine West. There are 40 brand name stores, and they are open year round with the exception of Christmas Day. If you check out the website before you go, you’ll be able to see what deals are currently happening and may find some coupons to print off.

Niagara on the Lake is a great place to shop if you are just looking to browse. There are tourist related stores mixed in with some more expensive clothing and hat stores. One of the coolest stores to check out is Just Christmas (map), which is open year round and filled to the brim with everything Christmas. Niagara on the Lake is the perfect place to wander in and out of stores, and just enjoy the atmosphere of this tiny historic town.

Downtown St. Catharines is also a great place to check out if you are looking for a more unique shopping experience.  You won’t find any brand name stores here, just local shops owned by local people. Some of my favourite stores include Not Just Art,  a great place to find unique gifts and Fremont Books, a bookstore packed to the brim. You never know what you could find as you twist and turn your way around the several floors. You can get a full listing of stores here.

Shopping in Niagara is great, because not only will you get to check out some different Downtown areas, but you’ll likely find some pretty cool stuff while you are out and about.
