Did You Say an Ice Cream Sommelier?

I’ll admit it, I’m an ice cream fanatic. It is rare that a day goes by without indulging in my favorite frozen treat, so when I was reminded that July was National Ice Cream month I knew it was going to be one fabulous month. I just wish I lived closer to the beach, and had landed the job as an ice cream sommelier at La Marea at The Tides.

During the month of July, the coral bar will transform into an Ice Cream Lab led by Executive Chef Gonzalo Rivera and Katherine Montero, biologist and ice cream sommelier. The lab will include 12+ flavors and five toppings ensuring the perfect combination.  The sommelier will greet guests with a Mobile trolley, The Gueridon, and offer tempting suggestions, so leaving room for dessert has never been so important.

Be prepared to treat yourself to a mixture of classic (Madagascar vanilla, dark chocolate)  and exotic flavors (maple syrup and bacon, mango & Thai red curry, salty dulce de leche with popcorn) with your choice of topping (ie. lemon verbena, chocolate straws and ruby port reduction).  2-3 scoops (at $3 a scoop) plus toppings is the recommended dosage for this creamy indulgence. Never has ice cream tasted so good!

This soon-to-be-favorite cart will be available 7 days a week during lunch and dinner, but the ice cream sommelier will only be on duty (Thursday-Sunday for dinner only). So whether you are looking for a way to cool off after a long day at the beach, need a way to satisfy that sweet tooth or want to taste your way through the exotic menu, just remember you only have the month of July to do so.

La Marea at the Tides is located at 1220 Ocean Drive in Miami Beach. (305) 604-5070 (map)
