Maui Film Festival

Zac Efron is here in Hawaii this weekend!  He’s on Maui, to be specific, for the Maui Film Festival,  the islands’ biggest annual outdoor film festival.  In attendance this year will be none other than Zac Efron of High School Musical fame — and others like legendary surf filmmaker Taylor Steele, but even though I like surf flicks, I’d really attend the Maui Film Festival to get a glimpse of dreamy Efron, who is accepting the Festival’s “Shining Star Award, and will be enough to bring out the crowd.

On tap for this weekend is a full bonanza of great independent film showings highlighting both locally and internationally produced films.  The Celestial Cinema at Hotel Wailea [map] is the premiere location for outdoor movie viewing, while there are other films playing at various theatres in the area.

Steele’s new surf documentary “Castles in the Sky” will be be playing this evening, while a gaggle of other films will play throughout this Father’s Day weekend.

Single tickets are $20 per night, while kids 12 and under get in for $10 — or for FREE this Sunday to celebrate Father’s Day (but why not the other way around?).

Visit the Maui Film Festival website for a complete list of film showings, or call #808.572.3456 for more information.
