Gearing Up for Summer Fun at Gaylord National Resort

image024 What does fireworks, sand sculptures and wax figures have in common?

They are all a part of Gaylord National Resort’s (map) events and activities during the “All-American” SummerFest.

From now through September 6, the Maryland-based property has something for all ages during the weekends (and weekdays, too!)

The fun begins in the lobby when you are greeted by life-sized wax figures of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, both on loan from Madame Tussauds Washington D.C. (map). Then, you can view the indoor sculptures depicting various D.C. monuments. Created by professional sand sculptures, around 25 tons of sand was brought in for the masterpieces.

Cap off the evening with the American Fanfare Fountain Show (8 p.m.) that image022 includes an unfurling of a 50-foot U.S. flag.

And that’s just the beginning.

There’s also brunch buffet on Sundays with George or Martha Washington, special spa treatments at Relache, lawn games and much, much more.

Did I mention the best part about this is that SummerFest is in addition to the property’s other daily activities, such as dive-in movies, live entertainment, and downtown D.C. tours and shuttle service.

But still, that’s not all. Even during SummerFest, there’s the nearby Food and Wine Festival at National Harbor (June 11-13), Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival at National Harbor (June 18-19), Fireworks & Fun July 4 Celebration and Abbey Road on the River (September 2-6).

Don’t let the summer past you buy without celebrating it, as well as the nation at Gaylord National.

Gaylord National is offering a SummerFest package that includes accommodations for one night, breakfast for four, one free kid’s dessert and other amenities. You’ll also find other packages, including one for Father’s Day Weekend.
