Free Saltwater Fishing this Weekend and Next
Whip out those fishing poles, it’s time to head out to sea. Fishing in Florida is safe and there’s no reason to stay away from our surrounding waters. It’s time to take advantage of the reason you live in the fishing capital of the world, and spend the weekend on the water.
Whether you’ve been staying away from the water because of your fear of the oil spill, or you’ve just let that license expire, it’s time to head back out — Governor Charlie Crist announced today that for the next two weekends locals and visitors alike can head out and fish for their favorite saltwater species. During Memorial Day weekend and the weekend of June 5-6, we can all join together to help revive the economy that has been suffering due to the oil spill.
While you may still have questions whether our water is safe, you can be assured that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is monitoring any potential impact the oil spill has on Florida’s fish and wildlife. If they do see any reason for concern, the public will know about it, and you can visit the FWC for any updates that might be released. The only closed areas at this time are well offshore in federal waters where oil has been spotted.
Have you been wondering how to get a fishing license? You might want to check out the different rules and regulations. Just so you know, it’s completely affordable (starts at $17), so why not add that to your summer to-do list?
