World Oceans Day and Dr. Seuss’s 50th Anniversary

One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, a Dr. Seuss favorite book is the highlight as SEA LIFE Aquarium celebrates World Oceans Day.    Families will be able to celebrate on June 5 from 10am-5pm.   Festivities include an exploration diver as he reads the classic Dr. Seuss book underwater!  The reading of the book is interspersed with questions and comments geared to get kids thinking about conserving our oceans and keeping fish populations safe. Your very own fish name in silly Seussian style, designing a party crown with a Clean Ocean Pledge or a caricature artist will draw a character from their favorite Dr. Seuss book.

For those not familiar with Dr. Seuss’ One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, since 1960 this book has been introducing young readers to fantastically funny creatures like the seven-humped Wump, the winking Yink, the boxing Gox, and more than a few fanciful fish.  A simple yet utterly silly book, it creates a fun reading experience combing exuberant illustrations and text, while providing a colorful parallel to the diversity of our world oceans.

The Ocean Day Party is a day to raise awareness of conserving and protecting our oceans in a fun and playful way.   The United Nations declared June 8 as the official World Oceans Day in 2009 but the event has been celebrated unofficially sine it was proposed at Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.
