Summer Music in the Yard At Eastern Market

Every Sunday during the late Spring and Summer in Washington DC’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, Eastern Market is alive with Music in the Yard.  Eastern Market is probably DC’s most famous indoor market and outdoor flea market, where vendors sell everything fresh flowers and produce to furniture and pieces of art.

Eastern MarketTo make the market even more fun, every Sunday, there’s a free live music concert presenting two bands of different musical styles.   This summer’s free live music schedule at Easter Market includes everything from Swing and Bluegrass bands, to Klezmer groups and Gospel singers.

Here’s the Music in the Yard schedule. The 90-minute musical acts each start at 10:30 and 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoons.

  • May 23 – Hokum Jazz – Swing & Blues & Hot Buttered Nuggets – Americana, Rockabilly
  • May 30 – Patty Reese & Dave Chappell – Contemporary Acoustic & Tonk Confidential – Retro Country
  • June 6 – Metronomes – Contemporary A Cappella & Project Natale – Jazz
  • June 13 – Gina DeSimone & the Moaners – Swing & Blues & Rio Garage – Brazilian Jazz
  • June 20 - The Sears Trio – Blues, Jazz & Bossa & Reverb – A Cappella R&B & Gospel
  • June 27 – The Sweater Set – Contemporary Folk & Andra Faye & the Mighty Good Men – Blues& Swing

Eastern Market is one of Washington DC’s oldest markets, dating back to 1805.  It’s one if the three markets proposed in l’Eanfant’s original plan for the Capital City. It’s also DC’s oldest continually operating fresh food market.
