See the Best of the Best in Military Aviation

Watch as the Air Force Thunderbirds scream overhead at the annual Joint Service Open House at Edwards Air Force Base in Camp Springs, Maryland.

Blue Angles

Besides the Blue Angels, watch the Army’s Golden Knights parachute team, the military’s most high-tech helicopters, vintage war birds and acrobatic flyers as they put on one heck of show that demonstrates the power of the US Air Force and  it’s rich aviation history.

The show allows you to get up close and even climb into a few of the many aircraft on display.  And don’t miss the opportunity to talk with the pilots and maintenance crews for a real understanding of what it’s like to fly in these amazing aircraft.

Between the flying demonstrations, walk the base and check out dozens of vintage planes, some dating from WW-II and their somewhat obsessive pilots full of great stories and antidotes about their planes.

The air show highlights I’d watch for include:

  • Massive C-17 Globemaster demonstration
  • Aggressive F/A-18 tactical demo
  • Sean Tucker of Team Oracle for some precision flying
  • The Blue Angles – shows at 3:00 p.m. daily.

Then climb into a C-17 transport or take a seat behind the gun in a “helo.”  If you love helicopters, check out the Marine’s Sea Dragon or the Army’s Super Cobra.

And don’t miss the Army’s VIRTUAL ARMY EXPERIENCE, the 57,750 sq. ft. virtual combat simulator.  Inside, you can climb aboard a HMMWV (Hummer) and become a turret gunner on a mission to rescue noncombatants from a hostile area.  This simulator makes the X-Box look like kid’s play.
