Give Mom Taste of Islands With Disney Classic Tonga Toast

If your travel plans for this weekend don’t include taking mom to a Disney brunch, why not treat her to breakfast in bed, Disney-style? With a little help from the Orlando Sentinel here is a classic recipe that will make mom think she  has magically traveled to Walt Disney World (map) and the Polynesian Resort (map). 

Disney’s Polynesian Resort is like a tropical paradise sitting on the outskirts of the Magic Kingdom theme park.  Featuring thick vegetation, thatched roofs, and koi ponds, the resort is built to resemble a Tahitian assembly lodge and is decorated with bamboo and rattan.

Guests to the resort have enjoyed traditional American meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner)  with South Pacific flare in the relaxed atmosphere at Kona Cafe .  Though all the meals at offer a signature dish, like the housemade sweet potato chips at lunch, and Coconut Almond Chicken at dinner, it is the breakfast, and more specifically the cinnamon and sugary Tonga Toast, most of us crave.

The deep-fried, banana-stuffed breakfast classic has been served at the Resort since the 70’s and now with the link to the recipe, Kona Cafe’s Tonga Toast from Disney’s Polynesian Resort, you can try it at home. Decorate mom’s tray with some tropical flowers and serve this dish with Kona coffee for that special Polynesian touch.
