The Desert in Full Bloom
Home to 139 rare, threatened and endangered plant species from around the world, the Desert Botanical Garden (map) in Phoenix is one of only 44 botanical gardens accredited by the American Association of Museums. I recently spent a Sunday afternoon strolling the grounds of this one-of-a-kind museum to experience and learn about the flowers that bloom this time of year.
If you visit the Desert Botanical Garden, consider taking a guided tour. Learn how these amazing plants survive and thrive in our desert climate on docent-led tours.
50 acres of beautiful outdoor exhibits at the Garden feature specially designed wildflower gardens in full bloom during the spring. If you’re interested in learning more about the wildflowers indicative of the Sonoran desert, here’s a guide with more details.
To spend a relaxed evening amongst these wonderful plants and flowers, I always enjoy the Jazz in the Garden series that highlights some of the best musical talent in the Valley.
For anyone who has an interest in gardening, contact the Garden’s Horticultural Department for tips on keeping your desert garden in full bloom.
Also, before you leave the Garden, take the opportunity to visit the Marshall Butterfly Pavilion. You’ll love all the colorful varieties of these amazing creatures.

The Garden was so lovely and a great place to stroll away a winter day, I can’t imagine how beautiful it is in full bloom. How lucky to be there to enjoy it. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jenni,
It was a nice way to be outdoors before the summer heat sets in.
