Come See Cooks With Books

For years now The Book Passage in Corte Madera has been a sanctuary of literary sanity.  One of the few independent bookstores left in the Bay Area, they have made their reputation in part by holding outstanding author events and classes. And none are more popular than their Cooks With Books series. Here foodies can come taste food prepared under the supervision of the author/chef, who discusses his or her cookbook with guests throughout the meal. Held at outstanding Bay Area restaurants, the summer schedule plays host to a wide variety of speakers including:

Cat Cora’s Classics with a Twist

Cat Cora became the first female Iron Chef on the Food Network in 2005. Since then, she has received the Bon Appetit Teacher of the Year Award, opened two restaurants, and has become a TV personality on the Food Network. She still manages to cook meals at home for her four young sons. In Cat Cora’s Classics with a Twist, she takes dishes we all love and puts her own stamp on them. Anthony Bourdain Medium Raw

Anthony Bourdain’s Medium Raw is the follow-up to his best-selling Kitchen Confidential. Bourdain pulls back the kitchen doors and tells funny, shocking, and passionate stories about David Chang, Thomas Keller, and many other famous chefs. Bourdain hosts his own television show and is the author of Bone in the Throat, Gone Bamboo, A Cook’s Tour, and The Nasty Bits. This event is filling up quickly, so make reservations now. Susan Herrmann Loomis Nuts in the Kitchen

Join award-winning author and noted cooking teacher Susan Herrmann Loomis for a nutty evening of fun and delicious food. Nuts in the Kitchen is Herrmann’s latest and tenth cookbook. Her research on cooking with nuts led her all over the globe. In this book she brings nuts to life in 100 recipes for small plates, salads, main dishes, side dishes, and desserts. She also includes the essential nutritional information, menu ideas, and suggestions for stocking the pantry. Loomis is a columnist for France Today and a regular contributor to many publications. Rick Bayless Fiesta at Rick’s: Fabulous Food for Great Times with Friends

Award-winning chef-restaurateur, TV personality and cookbook author Rick Bayless has done more than anyone to bring authentic Mexican food to American tables. While living in Mexico, he wrote the now-classic Authentic Mexican. Six cookbooks later, he comes to us with Fiesta at Rick’s, co-written with his wife, Deann Bayless. He presents 150 recipes that range from savory nibbles to street food and live fire-grilled meat and fish. He offers loads of advice, including party menus. Come on over to our Fiesta at Marinitas for a book reception—not a sitdown meal, but a gathering of friends, while we sample appetizers and imbibe cocktails.
