Day Trip from Orange County: Temecula

Just an hour from Orange County, the city of Temecula is nestled among lush vineyards and rolling hills and just waiting for you to check out what it has to offer.  Although it is known as Southern California’s “wine country,” Temecula Valley has much more to offer, making it perfect for a trip with your girlfriends or with your significant other!

The One Day Quick Trip

Start the day with a hot air balloon ride to get an aerial view of the beautiful scenery.  Flights last 60-75 minutes and are available 7 days a week.  There are four hot air balloon ride companies in Temecula – A Balloon Adventure & Wine Tour, A Grape Escape Balloon Adventure, A Balloon/Biplane Adventure by California Dreamin’, and D&D Ballooning.

Next, head to the Old Town for some shopping and to grab a bite for lunch!  Modeled after the historic wild west of the 1880s, Old Town Temecula is a mix of historic buildings and upscale shops and restaurants.  With everything from Granny’s Attic antiques to Truffles & Lace Tea Parlor to The Promenade in Temecula, there is sure to be something for every shopper!

In the afternoon, be sure to check out one of the award-winning wineries.  Be sure to grab a bottle to take home!

Once night falls, head to the Pechanga Resort & Casino (map) for a delicious meal and a blackjack game or two.  Pechanga also hosts some amazing concerts (upcoming events include Ratt featuring Warrant, The Original Stars of American Bandstand, and Jewel), so many people plan day trips around a nighttime concert, and still get home before midnight!

From Orange County, take Highway 91 east to I-15 south (map).  For more information, visit the Temecula Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau.

I visit San Diego frequently and in the past have toured the vineyards in Temecula. I’m always looking for new things to do. I’ll have to go back to shop, gamble and go on a hot air balloon ride. Thanks for the tips!
