Black cab fare rises

London taxi fares have gone up again.

London’s black cabs will post a 2.3% increase over last year’s prices. That will push average fares (given by Transport for London) to over £10, by day, and £14 by night.

This is the lowest annual increase since 2004 – and that’s something of a victory for the consumer, because petrol prices, which are one of the biggest costs for a cabbie, have risen markedly over the last few months.

Remember taxis are not compulsory, though. I do know people who never take a bus or tube anywhere, but public transport is generally much cheaper than taking a cab – and can be quicker, too.
