Spring Garden Workshops at the Great Park

It’s time to start thinking about what to plant in your yard or spring garden this year, and the Orange County Great Park in Irvine is here to help!  The workshops have been going on since March, but there are still three great opportunities to take advantage of – Tool Time, Smart Gardening, and The Backyard Orchard.

Tool Time

Saturday, May 1st from 10 a.m. to noon

This workshop will cover both the tools you can’t live without and the tools that just make gardening easier.  Master Gardeners will be discussing and demonstrating tools for home gardening.

Smart Gardening

Saturday, May 15th from 10 a.m. to noon

The Master Gardeners will simplify basic gardening knowledge about irrigation, soil care, pest control, energy and wildlife. They will also provide tips for you to apply that knowledge to save time and create a healthier garden.

There is a third workshop, The Backyard Orchard that has been postponed, date TBD.  In The Backyard Orchard,  Master Gardeners will provide tips for planting fruit trees in small gardens. Learn about the varieties of fruit trees suitable for backyard growing and how to plant and care for them.

The Orange County Great Park is located in Irvine (map), and all workshops are led by University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners of Orange County in the Farm & Food Lab.  Free parking is available and admission is free as well.

The Orange County Great Park also hosts Natural History lectures, Self-Defense lessons, and recently unveiled a new course, Understanding the Birds of OC.
