Four Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

Are you doing everything you can to help the planet? If not, Earth Day is the perfect time to start. This year, April 22, marks the 40th Anniversary. Here are a list of activities that you can do to join in the action.

  • Celebrate with Whole Foods. On April 22 in Aventura, you will see organic food, wine and body cared demonstrations and have the opportunity to speak with local non-profits who are dedicated to helping both our nearby communities and the environment. If you are one of the first 300 to arrive, you will also receive a free reusable canvas bag. In Wellington, they will also be giving away free bags to the first 100. Guest Chef, Ursula Rafer from Sierra Club, will be giving a complimentary cooking class teaching guests how to make delicious Key Lime Cupcakes that are vegan, gluten free, and with no sugar added as well as Citrus Salad! Pre-register by calling customer service 561-904-4000.   Check with your local Whole Foods locations to see if they are participating.
  • Spark your creativity with a “Create Your Own Pizza” contest sponsored by Pizza Fusion. Participants are required to share their favorite earth-friendly pizza recipe online by posting a video creating the pizza. The top 5 videos, according to the number of views by April 30, will make it to the final round where they will be judged by celebrity judges, like Chef Aaron McCargo Jr, star of Food Network’s Big Daddy’s House. The winner of this contest will win a trip for two to an organic and sustainable vineyard, fresh produce from Earthbound Farm and organic beverages from Honest Tea and Give Natural Spring Water. Check out all of the details on the contest. http://earthdaycontest.com/
  • Drink up on Earth Day at Area 31. Chef John Critchley has created a special cocktail in recognition of Earth Day. This TRU Earth Martini will be available from April 19-25, and cost just $8. Sales of the TRU Earth Martini will help plant rain forest throughout Central America. TRU Vodka had pledged to plant one tree for every bottle of TRU Vodka sold. Area 31 is located on the 16th Floor of EPIC Hotel at 270 Biscayne Blvd. Way., Miami, Florida 33131.
  • Plan a meal at home using only local ingredients, while you’re spending an evening in, why not sign Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution petition to help save America’s cooking skills and improve school food.
  • Take your bike to work or anything non-motorized. In observance of Earth Day, The Cape Cod Room is laundhing a non-motor promo from April 22-May 31. For this promotion, guests that walk or ride their bike to The Cape Cod Room will receive a complimentary round of drinks of desserts.  The Cape Cod Room is located at The Bath Club, 5937 Collins Ave., Miami Beach.
