Newport Beach Film Festival Opening Night This Thursday

Lights, Camera, Action!  On April 22nd, the Newport Beach Film Festival is bringing the world’s best classic and contemporary filmmaking to Orange County.  The 11th annual Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF) will spotlight over 400 films from around the world, “showcasing a diverse collection of studio and independent films.”  An event you don’t want to miss, the Newport Beach Film Festival offers moviegoers a unique opportunity to meet the directors, screenwriters, and cinematographers during post-screening Q&A sessions.

The festival will open on Thursday, April 22nd with the world premiere of Five Star Day at Edwards Big Newport theater (map).  Five Star Day features Twilight’s Cam Gigandet as Jake Gibson, who wakes up on the morning of his birthday to a horoscope predicting a “five star day.”  The day turns out to be anything but five star.  The film is also Orange County native Danny Buday’s directorial debut.  The screening will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Following opening night of the festival will be an Opening Night Gala, hosted by the NBFF and Esquire magazine, at Bloomingdale’s Courtyard at Fashion Island (map).  The gala will include the area’s top restaurants featuring culinary samplings, and a fashion show featuring the latest looks from Fashion Island retailers.  Tickets to the Opening Night Show and Gala are $125 each and are available at the NBFF website.

The Newport Beach Film Festival is sponsored by Absolut Vodka, Fashion Island, Regal Entertainment Group, Newport Lexus, Los Angeles Times, Time Warner Cable, and the City of Newport Beach.
