Celebrate Foursquare Day on 4/16

I’ll admit, I’m one of those. I’m attached to my iphone and check in to all of the cool places I go. I’ll pass up the bank or the grocery store or the gas station (Really, who cares that I’m there.), but I will religiously check in and track my nights out – restaurants, bars and how new venues, you know it. (So maybe no one cares about that either, but I have fun doing so.) And it’s not just one check-in (Foursquare, Gowalla, etc.), as I didn’t know what was going to catch on. To feed my semi-new addiction, I do know one thing — I’m going to hitting the streets on Foursquare Day. Are you?

If you haven’t heard of Foursquare, it’s the perfect time to catch on, as Friday is National Foursquare Day. What does that mean? Local restaurants and other retailers nationwide will be offering perks to Foursquare users when they check in on Friday.

What is Foursquare? Foursquare is one of the many GPS location check-in services where users check-in when they are out. This allows them to show their status to their friends and followers through their connections on Foursquare, and also on their facebook and twitter streams. Users receive points, even badges, by checking in on an ongoing basis — and they can even become the mayor of a venue by checking in more than anyone else. Some venues even offer perks to the mayors, or anyone for that matter, simply by checking in, and many additional venues are offering deals just for Foursquare Day. The planning of Foursquare Day has increased use worldwide, and now over 750,000 users participate.

For those people who are technologically challenged, here’s a video that walks you through the process.
