Planning a Disney Vacation, Magic Your Way

Edging ever closer to that Disney vacation, we have selected our travel dates and have secured accommodations. The next step on our Disney vacation To-Do List is purchasing tickets to the theme parks.

Just as the name implies, you can truly customize your vacation creating the perfect ticket package for your family to experience all the magic of Disney the way you want.  In order to get started, you once again have a few choices to make and need to ask yourself a few questions:

  • How many days will we want to visit the theme parks ? The base ticket allows for guests to visit one park at Walt Disney World Resort (map), (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom) for one day of your visit.  Base Tickets for theme park visits can be purchased for one to 10 days full of fun.  $$ HINT: the price per ticket decreases with each additional day you purchase.  In other words it is cheaper per ticket to buy four days of passes than four one day passes.  Don’t worry if you need a little down time from Mickey, you don’t have to use the tickets on consecutive days.
  • Will we want to visit more than one park per day? If  you answered yes, a “Park Hopper” option would be perfect for you.  A Park Hopper allows guests to “hop” from one park to another, enjoying attractions at different locations in one day.  So if you want to fly with Dumbo in the morning at the Magic Kingdom AND go Soarin’ at Epcot later that evening. This option also allows Resort guests to take advantage of the extra magic hours at several parks.  HINT:  My family has found this a very convenient option, especially when our children were younger making  it perfect for regrouping and afternoon naps.  Guests staying  at resorts near the Boardwalk (map) might also consider this option as this area is so close to both Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. $$ HINT:  The current procedure for this option is a flat fee, no matter how many days of tickets you will be purchasing.
  • Will we want to visit any water parks or other attractions outside the parks? If a trip to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon (map), Blizzard Beach (map), DisneyQuest interactive theme park (map), ESPN Sports Complex (map)or Oak Trail Golf Course (map) sounds exciting, then you may want to consider adding the Water Park Fun & more option to your tickets.  Guests must be purchasing at least two days of Magic Your Way tickets to purchase this option which is currently a flat fee.  The number of options available depends on the number of ticket days purchased.  Simply put for each ticket day purchased you will receive two options to visit either of these attractions. $$ HINT: If you plan on visiting at least two of these options, the flat fee paid is cheaper than purchasing these two options individually
  • Will we be returning to Walt Disney World in the future? Theme park tickets have an expiration date.  Guests purchasing two or more days of tickets, may include the No Expiration option.  Simply put, unused tickets with this option never expire.  $$ HINT: Our family has purchased the 10 day packet of tickets with the no expiration option, cashing in on the extra savings and holding the tickets for future visits. Price is placed on the tickets at the time of purchase.  It can not be added to unused tickets. HINT: This may not be an option if your children are approaching the magical age of 10.  Children over 9, must purchase adult tickets.

Magic Your Way Tickets are available online or by calling 407-W-DISNEY.  I bet making all these decisions has made you hungry.  Good thing we will discuss dining options next.
