Hot Happenings: April 5-12
Monday: Press your luck every Monday at Brickell Irish Pub as they host a no-limit Texa hold’em tournament in conjunction with Miami Poker Society. Every week, you can win a shot at a wsop bracelet. Tuesday: Dine Magazine welcomes Dr. Hepp from Schloss Vollrads, one of the finest Riesling producing regions to Gibraltar at Grove Isle Hotel & Spa. For $10 in advance, $15 at the door, guests will mingle with Dr. Hepp, enjoy a glass of wine and taste some sumptuous hors d’oeuvres like Ahi Tuna Summer Rolls, Foie Gras Torchon and Asian Short Rib Pot Pie. Wednesday: Johnny Walker presents House of Walker from now through April 10. Join this fantastic whisky house for a private tasting with Master of Whiskey, Stephen Wilson, of select Johnny Walker Scotch Whiskies. Cocktails and light appetizers will be followed by this tasting experience. It is free to attend, but you must RSVP and arrive at least 30 minutes prior to event start time. Thursday: Hotel Biba in West Palm Beach presents SHOWTEL. This annual event features independent and alternative art in all media including: scultpure, video, sound and performance art. The 20 selected artists transform the rooms at Hotel Biba into a artist showcase. The preview night is on Thursday, April 8 from 6:00-8:00 pm, and show nights will be on Friday and Saturday from 5:00 – 10:00pm. Hotel Biba is located at 320 Belvedere Road in West Palm Beach.
Friday: Treat yourself to a 3-course, $39 seasonal menu at The Capital Grille from now until May 16. Start off with a Spring Onion Soup or seasonal salad; select your choice of entree – Grilled Beef Tournedos with Heirloom Tomatoes and Parmesan, Lane Snapper with Sweet and Sour Tomato Relish or Garlic and Herb Marinated Lamb Chops; followed by dessert — either Vanilla Ice Cream with Strawberries and 12-year Aged Balsamic or Chocolate Brioche Pudding with Gianduja Ice Cream. Saturday: The restaurants of Coral Gables will come together this weekend for the Coral Gables Wine & Food Festival. This event includes a street festival for $50 and a VIP reception ($150). Guests will enjoy samples from over 30 area restaurants like Ortanique on the Mile, Morton’s The Steakhouse and Angelique Euro Cafe. Wines will be presented by Premier. The event starts at 6:00 pm (VIP) or 7:30 pm (General Admission) on the 100 block of Giralda.
Sunday: The Florida Heart Research Institue and Miami Science Museum present the Heart of a Chef. Highlights include a local celebrity chef cook off, cupcake and chef hat decorating, a laser show, wine with the wildlife and Whole Foods Market Farmers Market. The event takes place on Sunday, April 11 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Miami Science Museum. Cost is $30 for adults, $12 for children under 12.
