My Heart Is Still In San Francisco

Every summer, when I was a kid, my parents would take my brother Scott and I on a trip somewhere to get out of the heat and smog of Los Angeles. The venues were varied but almost always involved camping. But one year, when I was 8, they took us to San Francisco.

I had never tasted anything like the succulent, sweet, sliced barbeque pork we ate in Chinatown and swooned at my first cable-car ride, chugging up, and then down, a very steep hill. As cliché as those experiences may seem, they are quintessentially San Franciscan — and I never forgot them. So much so that when I turned 21, I chose to move to the City by the Bay — and to this day, the love affair continues.

I’ve lived in and written about the San Francisco Bay Area for over 25 years. Beginning next week, I am honored to join PlanetEye Traveler as the new blogger for the San Francisco Traveler. I hope to bring you the best and the brightest that San Francisco, Napa, Sonoma, Marin, Berkley and surrounds have to offer.

As a devoted foodie, total art fan, serious shopper, spa fanatic, music lover and theatergoer, I plan on covering a wide variety of events, happenings, restaurants, museums, hotels, festivals and just about anything else that makes the Bay Area so special. If you have something you’d like to know about, I’d love to hear from you.

So, until next week, I leave you with the thought I had when I left San Francisco for the first time. How soon do I get to come back?
