Buy a Dutch Book and Travel Free on Trains

Spend €12,50 or more on a Dutch language books between 11 – 21 March and get a copy of  Duel, the title of this year’s Book Week Gift.

Duel is written by Joost Zwagerman (1963). This tragicomic story tells how the director of a modern art museum gets into problems when a €30 million worth work of art disappears.

Joost Zwagerman wrote his first book, de Houdgreep when he was twenty-two. He is prolific writer who writes and publishes two or three novels every year.

Boekenweek or Book Week is an annual event meant to promote Dutch literature. Boekenweek opens with the Book Ball on 10 March in the Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam. Don’t just turn up because only invited people can attend it.

NS or Dutch Rail is the main sponsor of this event. That’s why your Book Week Gift doubles as a train ticket. On Sunday 18 March you can travel anywhere in the Netherlands for free, but only second class. All you have to do is show your Boekenweekgeschenk to the conductor.
