Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Orange County

St. Patrick’s Day is often focused on green food, green beer, and green clothes.  Try something different this year by watching a traditional dance concert, going to a Irish festival, or a supporting a golf tournament for a good cause.

4th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival at the Orange County Marketplace (map) on Saturday March 14th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Visit the Orange County Marketplace on the Orange County Fairgrounds for a family festival filled with traditional Irish dance troupes, including the Claddagh School of Irish Dance at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Aniar Academy of Irish Dance at 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and Fearon O’Connor School of Irish Dance at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Marston Smith, electric cellist, will also be performing at 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

They didn’t forget about the kids with Abbit the Average Leprechaun performing acts of comedy and magic at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Admission is $2 for adults, free for children, and includes green mint ice cream!

Irish Hooley at the Irvine Barclay Theater in Irvine, CA (map) on March 17th at 8 p.m.

The Irish Hooley sold out last year, and is back again for 2010!

Irish Hooley (meaning “boisterous party”) celebrates this St. Patrick’s Day in a “kick up your heels and join in the fun” family concert. The night will include pipes, flutes, harp, fiddles, bodhráns, dancing, singing, and storytelling, with a grand Irish sing-along led by Dubliner Laura Turner.

Tickets are available online or by calling the box office at (949) 854-4646.  Tickets are $22 for children, $38 for adults, and $33 for seniors.

HDSA St. Patty’s Day Golf Invitational at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita (map) on March 17th from 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

What better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than with a golf game to support a good cause?  The Ted Robinson-designed course is playable for all handicaps and kicks off at 11:30 am with a BBQ lunch, includes St. Patty’s Day beverages, a Helicopter Ball Drop, awards dinner and more!
