See the Wonders of Haida Gwaii at Haida Gwaii House

Located near BC Place Stadium, tucked in a small studio on the ground level of the Hampton Inn, the Haida Gwaii House is a mini-showcase of Haida art and culture.  Haida ambassadors, some in their Haida regalia, are on hand to answer your questions and tell you about where they live.  Some of these costumed ambassadors can be seen in various locations around the downtown core, ready to answer your questions about Haida Gwaii.

The Haida have inhabited Haida Gwaii (“Islands of the People”) also known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, since the end of the late Ice Age.  Their culture dates back at least 12,000 years. Haida artists are renown and you’ll see some of the fabled Haida carvings and other art on display at Haida Gwaii House, including a Haida mask carved by Reg Davidson, and 11 foot totem pole and a number of scrolling images.  Artist Chrsitian White will be at work carving on site. The Haida are world famous for their art and monumental totem poles as well as argillite carvings.

Two 40 inch video screens project spectacular image of the region and a 60 inch TV shows a video of tourism on Haida Gwaii.  There’s also a chance to win a trip to Haida Gwaii which you can enter on-line.  To enter the contest giveaway see their website
