Franz Ferdinand in Lapa
Fans of Scots rockers Franz Ferdinand can catch the sharply-dressed quartet in Rio on March 19th, when they’ll play at Fundicao Progresso, in Lapa.
This is a repeat visit to the city for the band, who are playing in Rio as part of a month-long South American tour that also takes in dates in Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, Colombia and Peru. If you want to follow the Brit boys on their Brazilian adventure, you can catch them in Porto Alegre (March 18th); Brasilia (March 21st), and Sao Paulo (March 23rd).
Fundicao Progresso is located slap bang in the middle of the downtown party district of Lapa, and regularly plays host to major national and international bands and DJs.
Unfortunately for Franz fans on a budget, prices are on the high side – R$140 full price, and R$70 for students (just show any student ID when making the purchase to bag those half-price tickets).
Tickets can be bought at the venue itself, which is located just behind the iconic Arcos da Lapa (map) at Rua dos Arcos 24 (map). The building is easily identified by its bold blue and green striped facade.
Alternatively, tickets can be bought online at the Fundicao Progresso website – http://www.fundicaoprogresso.com.br/
Note that anyone buying half-price tickets online will need to show student ID on arrival at the venue.
Happily for hard-partying Franz fans, the gig falls on a Friday evening, and you’ll be right at the heart of the Lapa street party action when you leave the gig. Take some time to just stroll around and grab a dangerously drinkable fruit cocktail from one of the many street stands, and just soak up the Bacchanalian atmosphere. A word of caution – when heading to Lapa, leave valuables at home and keep cash in front pockets, not in bags. The sheer number of tipsy partiers makes this a natural stomping ground for opportunistic thieves.
