A Taste of the Atlantic: Atlantic Canada’s 2010 Hospitality House

“Welcome to our house!  Bienvenue dans notre maison!”  This is the friendly greeting you’ll get when you visit Atlantic Canada House during the 2010 Winter Olympics.  Until February 28 at Granville Island, you’ll be able to savour a taste of Atlantic Canad’s food and enjoy the entertainment at the Revue Stage, Granville Island Stage and the Backstage Lounge on Granville Island.

Atlantic Canada House highlights the rich and varied cultures of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador.  There will be daily shows, nightly concerts and a chance to sample some incredible East Coast cuisine.

At the Backstage Lounge I attended a Kitchen Party, free admission with a moderate wait to get in.  It was worth the wait to sample the delicious Atlantic delicacies such as   Tempura Halibut on a Carleton Country Potato Puff; Lobster Fritters with a sherry tarragon mayonnaise; Cod Cheek Press, confit tomato, onion sprouts; Hodgepodge with salt pork.

Right across from the Arts Club where the lounge is located, there is plenty of entertainment on the Revue Stage.  you can line up for one, then cross over and join the other line to take in both events that run on alternate times hourly.

On the Granville Island Stage Monday to Saturday, Atlantic Canada House presents “Atlantic Canada on Deck” featuring East coast performers in a lineup that changes daily, hosted by Newfoundland/Labrador comedian, actor and writer Shaun Majumder.  All the shows are free admission.  Visit online for info and schedules.
