Winter Wonderland Hits Washington DC Hard

Over the weekend, the Washington, DC area was spanked with a massive snowstorm that brought traffic and public transportation to a halt, shut businesses across the region and made staying home the preferred activity of the weekend.

At some times over the weekend, snow was falling faster than 2 inches every hour.  The snowfall totals came in at 25 inches of snow at Regan National Airport, and 34½ inches fall at Dulles Airport.

The storm downed power lines disrupting electricity to a couple hundred thousand homes around the region.

It was a however a boom for cross-country skiers and kids hoping to enjoy the two to three feet of snow making the area a winter wonderland.

The day before the storm hit, many area grocery stores set one-day sales records and by  Saturday, grocer’s shelves that hold staples such as milk and bread were bare.

The snow that dropped exceeded any two-day total snowfall accumulation in the District’s recorded history.

There’sa still about 30 inches of heavy, wet snow covering most of my driveway, which I am sad to say, I am still in the process of clearing.
