Let’s Talk Money

When preparing for a trip overseas, whether it be a week long trip or a 6 month tour, a thought that passes through each and every person’s head before setting off is surely a question of money and how it will come about when the local bank isn’t just around the corner.

There are certain things that should be taken into consideration when dealing with money in foreign countries, especially those in the developing world. As currency values in the developing world generally hold a weaker value than those of the western world, it is important to keep in mind that when you are exchanging a US$100 into the Kip from Laos for example, you are going to be handed a giant stack of bills; something you may not feel comfortable walking the streets with during the evening rush for example.

Furthermore, thanks to modern day technology, internationally recognized banks have been popping up in major cities across the world, thus making money withdrawals from ATM’s a convenient alternative to relying solely on carrying large amounts of cash and or traveller’s checks.
