Doctor Mason, A Great Resto-bar in Palermo Soho

Back in the late nineteenth Century, a British physician named Mason established himself in Palermo. At his house, he offered his services and hospitality to the neighbors. The back ally street where the house was located was named after the good doctor. In that same house, in a hidden corner of Palermo, was established the resto-bar Doctor Masón which gathers the most distinctive characteristics of Europe with a touch of Buenos Aires.

This old house, where the delicate light that emanates from the window attracts passer-bys, opens its doors and what you find inside is unique. An informal ambiance in an impressive structure, with exquisite details such as a recycled marble bar and a large mirror with a solid wood frame over the bar that reflects the room and produces a feeling of space, and the basement where great music is played without altering the upper hall.

Long years of living abroad gave its owners extensive experience and allowed them to imagine a place where the bar is the star, with a variety of domestic and imported beers offered, also home crafted, on the tab or bottled, and classic cocktails, shots, and the special of the house: Garibaldi (Campari with orange juice). An extensive wine list, which joins a kitchen menu that covers from bites at the bar, sandwiches and pizzas, passing to the table area where you can order Mexican food (nachos, quesadillas, enchiladas, fajitas, guacamole), or great dishes such as rúcula salad with sirloin garnish with the mysterious Dr. Masón sauce; or bondiola with barbecue sauce; or refried pumpkin ravioli; or sorrentinos staffed with ricotta and Gruyère cheese with tomato sauce and mushrooms; or vegetarian chup suey; or roasted chicken with pilaf rice and cinnamon; or desserts such as cheese and chocolate mascarpone cake; or apple crumble with ice cream; or warm chocolate cake, and much more.

The mystical ambiance of the place is a major feature of Doctor Masón and music also deserves a paragraph: reggae, soul, rock, dub, bossa nova, house are some of the rhythms that you can enjoy while having a good time. There is a pool table and a bar at the basement. Doctor Masón opens everyday at noon and closes whenever the last patron leaves, which sometimes is really late. It really is a good place to be…
