Winter City Festival

It’s cold and snowy here in Toronto with extreme cold temperature alerts being spread throughout the city, but on the upside, Toronto is celebrating the urban winter experience with the free Wild on Winter festival in Nathan Phillips Square that is happening this and next weekend. These festivals help Torontonians forget about the coldest months of the year with an opening evening of fire.

Burning Man fire artists and the Flaming Lotus Girls will be making their very first Winter City and Canadian performance in Angel of the Apocalypse tonight at Nathan Philips Square. This performance will also be an interactive art space featuring a fire-breathing bird’s head and body enclosed by flaming feathers. In this performance, audience members are invited to go up close to the flaming feathers and interact with the sculpture by operating its flames. The performance will go on tonight from 6pm-9:30pm.

This is a celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year as tons of dragon lion dancers flutter underneath hundreds of red paper lanterns. There will also be an impressive performance by Compagnie Les Passagers as they perform an aerial dance inspired by traditional and modern Chinese culture. If you go, make sure to bundle up and enjoy the show!
