Japanese Flavour Hits Sydney with Sake Restaurant and Bar

It seems that Sydney has a taste for the Orient. Hot on the heels of the opening of the Tokonoma Shochu Bar and Lounge, Sake Restaurant and Bar has opened its doors.

Chef Shaun Presland might not sound like an Asian chef, but after cutting his eye teeth at Nobu Atlantis, Unkai, and Sushi e you can bet he knows his stuff. I love the sound of the miso cream scallops and the bite-sized popcorn shrimp with its spicy dipping sauce. The Japanese fusion dishes are the ideal match for Kozaemon sakes, a premium range imported from a 300-year-old boutique Japanese brewery.

This is the ideal place for an intimate gathering or party thanks to its themed private dining rooms. There largest is the Kampai, which comfortable seats 34, or 30 if you’d prefer the more traditional Japanese sunken dining area. The next step down is The Bonsai, which seats 20 diners at a large communal table. Smaller groups can try the Cherry or Blossom, which each seat 8 guests.

Trading hours: Open for lunch weekdays from 11 am to 3 pm, and for dinner every night from 6 pm to 11 pm. The cocktail bar trades on weeknights from 3 pm to late
