5 Romantic Restaurants in Orange County
Valentine’s Day is less than a month away, and many restaurants are getting close to being booked for the romantic holiday! Now is the time to make those reservations, and here are my top suggestions.
Orange Hill Restaurant in Orange
6410 East Chapman in Orange (map)
Orange Hill Restaurant sits high above the city of Orange with gorgeous views of Orange County, and (when it’s clear enough) even Catalina Island.
The amazing menu has a wide selection of seafood (my favorite!), offering everything from Hawaiian Ahi ($28) to Australian Cold Water Lobster Tail (market price) to Alaskan King Crab (market) to Bouillabaisse Provencal, seafood in a tomato saffron broth($33).
Don’t think that seafood is all this restaurant has to offer though, there is Filet Mignon ($36), Roasted Free Range Chicken Breast ($19), and Roasted Rack of Lamb ($36) to mention just a few things. The full menu can be viewed on the website. Orange Hill Restaurant also offers an extensive wine list.
Ti Amo Restaurant in Laguna Beach
31727 South Coast Highway in Laguna Beach (map)
This traditionally decorated Italian/Mediterranean restaurant offers many Italian pasta meals such as Linguini Fiorentina ($19.95), Ravioli di Granchio ($24.95), Gnocchi con Basilico e Scampi ($21.95), and Manicotti Marinara ($19.95).
In addition to the regular menu, Chef Enrique adds an additional six to eight nightly specials of fish, beef, or another dish.
Basilic Restaurant in Newport Beach
217 Marine Avenue in Balboa Island (map)
The owner of this French/Swiss restaurant, Bernard Althaus, hails directly from the west side of the Alps, giving the food an authentic cuisine.
The menu changes daily, and diners have the option of ordering the “Prix Fixe” menu that, for $59.50 per person, which includes Soupe du Jour, Speciale Salade, Fish Du Jour, Champagne Sorbet Palette Refreshner, Viande Du Jour, Dessert Du Jour.
If the Prix Fixe isn’t for you, try the Seafood Risotto ($23) or Magret de Canard, duck seasonally prepared ($27).
Ambrosia in Santa Ana
801 North Main Street in Santa Ana (map)
Located at the OC Pavilion, this classy jazz restaurant surely sets the scene.
A sample dinner from the website starts with a selection of Hors d’Oeuvres (Escargots for $15 or Steak Tartare for $15), soup or salad, an entree (Surf &Turf for $34 or Truite de Tasmanie for $25) with one of the delicious sides (chive whipped potatoes for $5 or celeriac creamed spinach for $6).
Five Crowns in Corona del Mar
3801 East Coast Highway in Corona del Mar (map)
A replica of an old English inn, this restaurant has many great choices for a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner.
Roasted Rib Roast of Beef encrusted with Alaea Hawaiian sea salt, Beefsteak Neptune, and Butter Poached Lobster Tails are all good dinner selections!
