L.A. Weekend: Tattoo Expo in Pomona

As part of L.A.’s art month, I would like to mention my favorite type of art – that which is on the skin. So it was suiting that the Tattoo Expo is next week at the Pomona Fairplex. This world’s largest tattoo expo takes place at four locations: Pomona (as mentioned), San Francisco at the Cow Palace, Houston at the Reliant Center, and Chicago at the Navy Pier.  The Pomona event will take place on January 22-24, 2010 and times are Friday 2pm-11pm, Saturday 11am-11pm, and Sunday 11am-8pm. Also, along with visual art, there will be six live bands playing at the expo.

I was shocked to see that the Industry Sponsors included Vintage Tattoo and one of the honorary sponsors was Tennessee Dave.  I was surprised because I got my first tattoo at Vintage Tattoo by guess who? Tennessee Dave! I didn’t know these were such prestigious craftsmen (apparently world famous and member of National Tattoo Association and Alliance of Professional Tattooers), I just wanted to get a tattoo at the closest place to my home.  Even though they curse like sailors, they are pretty talented. They have lots of pictures of their work so go check out the variety on their web site!

I can only guess that this is an adult event with such contests as the “Nice Ass Contest” and selling of erotic apparel.  So leave your kids with the babysitter for this one and walk on the wild side at the Tattoo Expo.
