Lake Merritt Gondola Rides

Longing for a romantic gondola ride for Valentine’s Day or other special occasion?  It might be wonderful to jet off to Venice, but if your time and budget are a little more restrictive, just take a trip across the Bay Bridge to Lake Merritt in Oakland.  Lake Merritt is a large tidal lagoon, and in 1870 was the first official wildlife refuge in the United States.  Today it is surrounded by parks and urban neighborhoods, and its perimeter walking/jogging trail is popular year round.

Gondola under moon Lake Merritt Oakland Gondola Servizio operates year round, and offers private tours (meaning you are not thrown together with strangers) on a only basis.  Come as a couple for a romantic sunset ride, or put together a party of up to six for a more festive occasion.

Available cruise packages include:

  • Marco Polo: 30 minute tour, $40 for two people, additional guests $10 per person.
  • Casanova: 50 minute tour, $65 for two people, additional guests $10 per person.
  • Promessi Sposi:  A photographers delight, and a popular choice for special occasions.  Gondola Servizio will work with your photographer to create a photo-worthy event.  This is a popular package for engagement and wedding photos, and family portraits.  $225 for two people, additional guests $10.

Group tours are also offered, and customized requests are always considered

Location:  1520 Lakeside Drive, Oakland (map)

Parking:  Valet parking is available at next door Lake Chalet Restaurant (map).  Pass through the restaurant to get to the dock.  Street parking is also available, although often difficult to find.
