My 2010 resolution list for Lisbon

NewYearsEveI’ve just noticed that last year I had quite an ambitious resolution list. And obviously some of those things I just couldn’t do. While I did most of the things I wanted, some of them just couldn’t seem to happen. So, this year I will put my feet on the ground and choose wisely and carefully. And will get back to a few of the things I didn’t do in 2009.

1- Cable car ride at Nações Park

Although it’s not the best there is, it’s the best we’ve got. And supposedly one of the best ways to enjoy the magnificent view of Nations Park and the river Tagus along more than 1000 meters and 20 meters high.

Address: Parque das Nações (map)

2- Trying some of the best restaurants in town

Continuing the work I started in 2009, I will be going to some of the best restaurants Lisbon has to offer. Some in line are Terreiro do Paço, Alma, Casa da Comida, Pap’Açorda and AdLib.

3- Fábrica Braço de Prata

What once was a war material factory, in 2007 was transformed into a cultural centre that includes libraries, exposition rooms, cinema and theatre rooms and a live show area. Although I feel like I’ve been there, I have never really spent a couple of hours relaxing and sipping a drink there.

Address: Rua da Fábrica de Material de Guerra, 1 (map)

4- Dining on a boat along Tagus river with great city views

This has been in my mind for quite a while. I have a gorgeous city and a beautiful river flowing along. There are boats offering a late afternoon service that goes into the night, including dinner. I feel this is something you would like to know about.

5- Go crazy on Santo António evening,

My birth day is the 13th of June. This is Santo António day and on the 12th Lisbon go crazy at night. I used to go every year to Alfama neighborhood and drink along the streets while holding a grilled sardine on the other hand. It’s been quite a while since I’ve done that. I’m hoping this year will break it. I’m really missing it.

6- Rock in Rio in Lisbon

The world’s biggest music festival, Rock in Rio, will return to the Portuguese capital in May and will be on fro 5 days. Hopefully I will be checking some of the performances this year.

7- 24h city break to Óbidos

Óbidos is a beautiful village just about one hour drive from Lisbon. I will be making a visit to it’s castle and the village that lies within it.

8- Altis Belém Hotel

The new 5 stars design hotel in Lisbon (Altis Belém) is right by the river, in Belém area. No wonder the main theme behind it is the Discoveries.

Address: Doca do Bom Sucesso (map)

9- Visit the oldest gardens in Lisbon, Jardim Botânico

For 130 years, this garden has been given oxygen to the city center, near Principe Real. Today it shows around 20.000 species from all over the world.

10- Having a cooking lesson with one of Portugal’s top chefs

Having the chance to learn how to cook from a top chef may not seem a big deal for someone who does not like to cook. For the ones who do, it may just be a great opportunity. Specially when it’s a chef with a Michelin Star. Chef José Cordeiro, from Feitoria Restaurant, is giving lessons every Saturday mornings. I will be joining one of those.
