A Day At The Marina Green

The Marina Green, especially in beautiful weather, is a great place to spend the day jogging, rollerblading, or biking down the 3.8-mile long flat strip along the bay. While making way down the path, incredible views of Alcatraz and the rest of the bay area is easy to see. Once you have walked the path, at the end of Marina Green there is a sunny place to play volleyball or simply lie in the sun. Picnic’s are also a great idea for this area, or taking a walk down Chestnut Street to check out the funky restaurants, many of them cheap, to grab a bite to eat. There are also tons of shops in this area for those who love boutiques and other types of clothing stores. However, if you include tons of shopping to your day trip around the Marina Green, then you will need more than a day.

The Marina Green used to be difficult marshland before the famous earthquake of 1906 and was unable to build on. After the earthquake, this area was used as a dumping post for all of the rubble and debris from fallen buildings. When San Francisco was chosen to hold the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915, the rubble was altered into an insecure foundation for the event, which was fine at the time because it was only going to be there for a short period. The Palace of Fine Arts was the only structure left after the fair was over to signify that the fair had taken place there. The Palace of Fine Arts is a beautiful property with spanning green lawns and a pond with tons of wildlife. When in San Francisco on a gorgeous day, consider heading to Marina Green.
