Saying Goodbye to 2009, Looking Forward to 2010
Many people, it seems, are viewing 2009 as a year that is best forgotten. Economic woes, hurricanes, floods, we’ve seen our share of challenges in the past year. I’m sure there are many blessings as well, and those we’ll choose to keep in our collective memories. For along with the challenges came tales of heroism, community, balikbayan and compassion to our fellowmen. And, if only for that, will we look at 2009 with some measure of warmth.
And on to 2010 we’ll go, with its own set of joys and challenges. I am excited for the new year, as I am with every new leaf that’s turned. Who knows what this year will bring?
I, for one, choose to believe that good things will come. The good from the past will endure through the changing of the year, and pleasant surprises will be among the new.
We may or may not see Pacquiao fight Mayweather, but whatever happens, whoever his next opponent will be, the Pacman can always count on the support of the Filipino people behind him.
The Philippines will hold national elections in 2010, and we will continue to hold out hope for real change to happen.
And then there are the many things we have been proud of, that we can can continue to uphold and applaud in this new year.
I hope that you look upon the coming of 2010, and the new decade, with much enthusiasm and optimism. It’s a brand new start, or maybe a brand new continuation, with the chance to do better, and build upon the hard work of the past.
As this will be my last post for PlanetEye on Philippine Culture, I also want to thank you for your readership and wish you the best for the new year. If you wish to reconnect, you can find me at Merry Royals and my personal site, MaricarMac.
Thank you all, and blessings for 2010!
