Dining at Atrio at Conrad Miami

Chic and stylish, Atrio Restaurant & Wine Room, situated on Level 25 of Conrad Miami not only boasts one of the  best views in the city, but also offers gourmet comfort food that you will soon be dreaming about. Moving away from the former Latin-inspired menu, Conrad Miami hired Executive Chef Jonathan McCann to revamp the restaurant, both in concept and flavors. Out with the Spanish pinxtos and in with the comforting British dishes from McCann’s upbringing. It’s not your ordinary fish and chips menu, but rather a menu that brings some style into your basic dishes combined with local flavors and ingredients.

foiegrasOn a recent evening, I was invited in for a tasting of the new menu, and I was definitely left with glowing food memories. For starters, expect a combination of sweet and savory dishes — The richness of the crab stuffed ravioli paired nicely with the sweetness of the candied grapefruit salad. The silky foie gras was cooked to perfection and complemented by the luscious cinnamon French toast and the crunch of the caramelized apples.

For entrees, favorites of mine included the Oven Baked Yellow Tail set in an Orange Cardamom Reduction and the Truffled Meat Loaf added a modern twist to a classic staple. While the succulent Sea Scallops were seared to a golden perfection and melted in my mouth, I felt the cream corn risotto took away from what could have been a perfect dish.

Desserts were also aplenty. The theme of classic favorites with a modern twist continued to be the theme here.  A Warm Apple Tart with Jack Daniels Ice Cream and a Warm Plum Crumble with a Ginger Anglaise — were comforting and soothing, but don’t expect to have much room left, as the main entrees are too good to pass up.

While in the past, Atrio may have seemed unapproachable, this new menu (and menu concept) will appeal to many.  Enjoy a Miami Spice-like menu for $37 from now until the end of 2009. A new 3-course prix-fixe menu will launch at the beginning of each month to entice diners in. But unlike Miami Spice, this special dinner special will include a glass of wine. On Wednesdays, enjoy bottles of wine valued over $50 for 50% off in the restaurant.
