Woof, Woof, Cesar Millan The Dog Whisperer
Celebrity dog trainer Cesar Millan, aka The Dog Whisperer, will be sharing his dog training secrets and tips on how to transform dogs and their owners at the GMU Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia next month.
Millan has built his dog training business into an empire with a hit television show, Dog Whisperer, along with several dog training books and DVDs.
His philosophy is simple, that dogs have three basic needs – exercise, discipline and love.
He claims to rehabilitate dogs but train their owners, since many people attempt to relate to dogs in human terms, forgetting that dogs are pack animals and understand the pack leader concept.
He trains dog owners to become pack leaders and to project positive and calm energy, which he claims encourages dogs to be naturally submissive to their owners.
On his National Geographic Channel television program Dog Whisperer, airing for the past 5 years, Millan seems to have almost instant success with modifying the behavior of difficult dogs. In just minutes he rehabilitates aggressive, unruly, lethargic, skittish, or untrained dogs into calm, happy pets.
While some vets and animal rights groups object to some of his techniques, such as using a choke collar to control an aggressive dog and his dominance hierarchy theory, which may they claim, lead to more aggression in the dog, Millan has a built a solid group of followers that love his dog training philosophy.
