Seattle Photo Op: Vernita Bridge

Vernita Bridge near Othello

Details:  Although not actually in Seattle, you may have encountered the Vernita Bridge on a weekend trip.  It’s located on State Route 24, between Grant and Benton Counties, and takes you across the Columbia River.

The bridge, opened in 1965, coincided with the opening of a good chunk of SR 24.  Before the bridge, there was a ferry that transported people across the river.  Originally a toll bridge, the toll was fairly quickly retired.

If you’ve spent a weekend in the Othello area, or some of the surrounding smaller communities, you’ve like crossed or seen the Vernita Bridge.  It’s popular with photographers as well as motorists!

Definitely have to make it back to Seattle to cover some day trips outside the city. We were able to do so when visiting Portland and were astounded by the natural beauty! I know it’s the same with the Seattle area

  • Oh you must! Wait till we get past the rainy season and then put this on your vacation plans. I’d love to show you around the area.
