Boulder City Boy Scout Troop 7 Invites All to Celebrate 60 Years of Service
Boulder City Boy Scout Troop 7 celebrates its 60th anniversary this December, as the longest continually chartered troop in the Las Vegas Area Council and one of the oldest in Nevada. The group, which began on December 1, 1949 has been sponsored by the Boulder City Elks BPOE 1602 since its inception. The boys devote hundreds of hours to service each year to organizations like the Nevada State Veteran’s Home, Scouting for Food, Boulder City Parks and Recreation, Art in the Park, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management and the local schools.
In addition to local service projects, Troop 7’s legacy of Eagle Scout projects are seen throughout the city. Eagle projects have included relandscaping the entrance to the Veteran’s Home, restoring the statue of Frank Crowe Park and providing hardscaping for Martha P. King Elementary School. Troop 7 has produced over 53 Eagle Scouts since its inception.
As part of the anniversary celebration, the troop invites all past and present members of Troop 7 and the Elks Club, and all supporters to attend the 3-day celebration that begins with a no-host cocktail reception at the Boulder Dam Brewing Company on Friday night. The troop will show its appreciation of 60 years of Elks sponsorship with a major clean-up of the Elks Club on Saturday morning, then provide the color guard for the Boulder City Christmas Parade in the evening. Festivities conclude with a formal Court of Honor and Dinner on Sunday evening.
Troop 7 invites anyone who was a member, whose children were members of the Elks Club or Troop 7; other scouts and scout leaders; interested members of the community and anyone who has benefited from the scout’s community service to attend the Friday night reception.
“It is a great honor to be a part of the Boy Scouts of America. That honor is magnified when you are a part of the oldest Troop in the area,” says Scout Master Garth Schulz, who became an Troop 7 Eagle Scout when attending Boulder City High School and whose own two sons are currently poised to become Eagles. “With the support of Boulder City Elk’s Lodge #1682, Troop 7 has affected the lives of countless scouts.” Schulz invites everyone who was “part of the troop at anytime in any capacity” to celebrate the 60th Anniversary with the Troop and to pass along the invitation. “I hope to see many old friends and make some new ones.” They also hope to hear scouting stories from former scouts and their families and to see what happened to kids who belonged to the troop.
